IndiGo has introduced a new entry-level fare category called IndiGo Lite, aimed at passengers travelling with only cabin baggage. The fare will be available on direct domestic and international flights operated by the airline.

The new fare option is available to economy class passengers and offers a lower base price than other fare categories offered by IndiGo. Passengers booking under IndiGo Lite will get an auto-assigned seat at no additional cost and will be allowed to carry cabin baggage of up to 7 kg.

According to the airline, the fare has been designed for customers who travel light and want to pay only for the services they need. The new category gives passengers a more basic fare option while keeping the ticket focused on cabin baggage-only travel.

“Customers will enjoy a lower base price with an auto-assigned seat at no additional cost, and a cabin bag allowance of up to 7 kgs,” IndiGo said in a release issued on Wednesday.

The airline said IndiGo Lite will be the lowest-priced option among its fare categories. The fare will apply only to direct domestic and international flights. Passengers choosing this category should check the baggage conditions at the time of booking, especially if they need to carry check-in luggage.

Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer, IndiGo, said the new fare is part of the airline’s effort to build a product portfolio suited to different passenger needs.

“Designed for customers who travel light and would like to pay only for the services they need, IndiGo Lite is another step towards building a strong, fit-for-purpose product portfolio,” Singh said.

He added that the fare reflects the airline’s response to market demand while keeping travel accessible. “This reflects our agility in responding to the market dynamics while reinforcing our commitment to making travel more accessible and affordable for our customers,” he said.

The launch of IndiGo Lite adds another fare option for passengers booking economy-class tickets with the airline. For travellers, the key difference is the baggage structure. The Lite fare is meant for cabin baggage-only travel, with the 7 kg cabin bag allowance included. Seat selection will not be part of the fare in the usual paid-selection format, as seats will be assigned automatically at no additional charge.

Passengers should review the fare rules before booking. Since IndiGo Lite is an entry-level fare category, additional services may need to be purchased separately depending on the traveller’s requirements and the airline’s terms at the time of booking.

Air India Express also offers cabin baggage-only fares. IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, operates more than 2,100 flights daily.

With IndiGo Lite, the airline is adding a lower-priced economy fare for passengers who can travel without checked baggage on eligible direct routes.
