IndiGo Announces Expansion With Direct Flights To 10 New International Destinations

IndiGo, India's largest airline by market share, has announced plans to launch direct flights to 10 new international cities during the current fiscal year. This expansion aims to enhance the airline's global connectivity and cater to the growing demand for international travel.

The new routes include major global hubs such as London, Athens, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam. Additionally, the airline plans to introduce services to Southeast Asian destinations like Hanoi and Siem Reap, as well as other cities in Europe and the Middle East. These additions will increase IndiGo's international network from 40 to 50 destinations.

New Fleets And Flight Upgrades

To support this growth, IndiGo is set to induct advanced aircraft into its fleet. The airline plans to acquire long-range Airbus A321 XLR aircraft in 2026 and wide-body A350 aircraft in 2027. These additions will enable IndiGo to operate long-haul flights more efficiently and expand its reach to distant markets.

In response to the increasing demand for premium services, IndiGo will introduce a new business class product called "Stretch" on select international routes. This service will be available on narrow-body aircraft operating to destinations such as Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, and Phuket. The introduction of business class seating aims to cater to business travellers and enhance the overall passenger experience.

New Domestic Flights by IndiGo

Additionally, IndiGo has also announced the commencement of daily direct flights between Mumbai and Adampur, a town in Punjab's Jalandhar district, effective July 2, 2025. This new route marks Adampur as IndiGo's 92nd domestic and 133rd overall destination.

The introduction of this service aims to enhance connectivity between Maharashtra's capital and northern Punjab, facilitating both business and leisure travel. Adampur's strategic location, approximately 21 km from Jalandhar, positions it as a convenient access point for the region.

To support this route, IndiGo will deploy a 186-seater aircraft, operating seven days a week. The airline anticipates that this service will stimulate economic activity in sectors such as industry, education, and tourism within the Jalandhar region.

Strategic Vision

Speaking to media, CEO Pieter Elbers highlighted the airline's ambition to become a global player in the aviation industry. He emphasised that IndiGo aims to double its fleet size by 2030 and increase its international capacity to 30 per cent. Elbers noted that the airline's substantial order book of over 900 aircraft positions it well to achieve these goals.

This strategic expansion reflects IndiGo's commitment to strengthening its position in the global aviation market and meeting the evolving needs of international travellers.
