IndiGo will be the first airline to commence commercial flights from the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), currently under construction. As the country’s leading low-cost carrier, it will begin with 18 daily departures, connecting over 15 cities across India.
By November 2025, IndiGo aims to increase its operations to 79 daily departures, including 14 international flights. By November 2026, the number is expected to rise to 140 daily departures, with 30 international connections, reinforcing NMIA's role as a major Western hub.
Located in Ulwe, Raigad district, Navi Mumbai International Airport is a major greenfield airport project developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a joint venture between Adani Airports Holdings Limited (74 per cent) and CIDCO (26 per cent).
Spanning 1,160 hectares, the airport will have two parallel runways and four terminals upon completion. The first phase, expected to be operational by March 2025, includes one runway and one terminal with a capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. Once the airport is operational, travellers can explore nearby attractions like Central Park in Kharghar, one of Asia's largest urban parks, featuring walking trails, gardens, and an amphitheatre.
Industry experts view this expansion as part of IndiGo’s strategic roadmap to deepen its network while staying ahead in India’s highly competitive aviation market. As full-service carriers begin to regain ground, IndiGo is reinforcing its position as the largest and most connected airline in the country. With NMIA serving as a key western gateway and its recent merger with AirAsia India boosting regional connectivity, IndiGo is paving the way for seamless travel from metros to emerging towns.
The airline has also been working steadily to elevate its passenger experience. On its 18th anniversary last year, IndiGo introduced a suite of premium upgrades—including coupé-style two-seat bays, chef-curated healthy meals by Oberoi Flight Services, and RECARO-designed premium seating.
