India now has an Air Bubble Arrangement with Sri Lanka

India has signed an air bubble agreement with neighbouring island nation of Sri Lanka. Under the bilateral agreement, international flights between the two nations would be allowed to operate. This takes the count of countries with which India now has an air bubble to 28.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation took to its official Twitter handle to announce that India has established an air bubble agreement with Sri Lanka. &ldquoIndia has finalized an air bubble agreement with Sri Lanka, making it the 6th such arrangement in SAARC region and the 28th in total,&rdquo it said in a tweet.

Other nations which have signed similar pacts with India include Afghanistan, France, Canada, Germany, Maldives, the USA, the UK and the UAE, among others.

Under an air bubble agreement, two countries create a set of regulations and restrictions and sign a bilateral pact to allow airlines of both countries to operate international flights between them.

The reopening of Sri Lanka for Indian travellers, would make for an interesting competition with Maldives, which has been one of the most preferred tourist destinations for Indians ever since travel restrictions were eased.
