With the pandemic under control in China, half a billion travellers are set to make full use of the holiday season. And after a long slump, hotel prices are seeing a hike and the demand in domestic tourism a huge uptick. Even booking for ride apps are up with the sudden traffic. At least 425 million people had already travelled during the first four days of the holiday week.

The boost in the tourism sector of China stands in stark contrast to the global recession in the tourism industry.

Travel in China does not mandate COVID-19 tests or a quarantine period, measures that have further boosted travel in the country. Most of the other travel restrictions that had been imposed during the peak of the pandemic in China have also been relaxed. Demand for flight tickets has been even higher than it was last year as people crave for a change of environment after being locked in their homes for months.

It looks like domestic tourism, a significant contributor to the economy and employment in China, is on the path to a splendid recovery.
