Hornbill Festival Goes Virtual

The pandemic has changed the world and social events are not the same anymore. This year has been all about virtual gigs and events. The latest to join the bandwagon is Nagaland&rsquos super popular Hornbill Festival. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, this year&rsquos edition of the much-loved festival will be held virtually. The festival&rsquos 21st edition will be held from December 1 to 5 on national and local news channels.

One of the most well-known festivals of the Northeast, Hornbill is organised every year on December 1 when Nagaland celebrates its Statehood Day. The festival is a celebration of the rich culture of Nagaland and a platform to display its rich cultural legacy.&nbspStarted in 2000, the festival has become a global attraction.

The amazing culture and tradition of the Nagas, coupled with a sense of the exotic and the mysterious, draws in crowds by the hordes every year. This year, the Hornbill Festival will be a virtual event where various cultural programmes will be broadcast across news channels. These will be sourced from the state government archives.

The festival will be shown live on NDTV 24X7 at 10.30am on December 1 and at 12.30pm on December 5. Viewers will also be able to witness the cultural extravaganza on Doordarshan Kendra on December 1 at 5.30pm and December 4 on 3pm and on Northeast Live on December 1 at 11.30 am and December 3 at 3.30pm.

Last year, the festival was attended by as many as 2,82,811 visitors.
