History, All Lit Up

With the sweltering summer heat taking over Delhi, travelling during the day has become an arduous challenge. As the temperature soars past 40 degrees Celsius, it can be understandable that you wouldn't want to explore the city but come evening, it is a different story altogether. Wouldn't you want to enjoy the city's skyline bathed in bright lights If not for the beauty, social media is definitely a motivating factor

This year, Delhi's major monuments have been getting a facelift. Across the city, many monuments have been getting decked up in lights. The move, first suggested by the the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), was executed at Humayun's Tomb, Purana Qila and Red Fort. Today, if you go past these monuments after dusk, you will find them to be beautifully lit up, adding beauty to the already pretty Delhi skyline. 

In addition to this, it has requested that these magnificent destinations be open to visitors at night. ASI has already planned out the next set of monuments to be embellished with gorgeous lights, including Safdarjung's Tomb and the Qutub Minar. They are said to be decked with LED lights by mid-May. The lights will allow you to get a detailed look from a distance.  

The lights are penned to light up other aspects of the Qutub Minar like the Alai Darwaza - the entrance gateway, the Iron Pillar, and the pathways along with several other structures that complete the monument. ASI aims to make the national capital a hub for night tourism with this ambitious project. For those who are short on time, this will be a time efficient manner to explore Delhi and trace its rich history.
