Himachal Pradesh Government To Set Up 11 Ecotourism Sites

In a strategic move to propel ecotourism in Himachal Pradesh, the state government, in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Eco Tourism Society, has pinpointed 11 pristine ecotourism sites nestled amid forested areas. This development aims not only to showcase the natural beauty of the region but also to stimulate economic growth through responsible tourism practices.

Strategic Selection Of Eco-Tourism Havens

During a crucial meeting between Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and the Himachal Pradesh Eco Tourism Society, a collective emphasis was placed on the urgent need for widespread eco-tourism promotion. 

The selected sites, including Neugal Park, Swaar, Bir Billing, Saurabh Van Vihar, Kheerganga, Kasol, Sumarupa, Shogi camping site, Narkanda, Sojha, and Potter Hill camping site, span various forest divisions from Palampur to Shimla. With each destination allocated a protected area of one hectare and a preset reserve price, these initiatives prioritise the preservation and sustainability of the chosen sites.

Chief Minister Sukhu articulated the unparalleled natural beauty bestowed upon Himachal Pradesh, making it an alluring global tourist destination. His vision extends beyond the immediate 11 sites, with a commitment to identifying and developing more eco-tourism gems across the state. This ambitious move not only aims to revitalise the tourism sector, which faced setbacks due to recent floods, but also envisions providing self-employment opportunities for the local population.

Government's Financial Commitment To Sustainable Tourism

In a resounding demonstration of commitment to eco-friendly tourism, the Himachal Pradesh government has recently approved two eco-tourism projects valued at INR 16.67 crore. These projects, a result of collaborative efforts across various government departments, including Panchayati Raj, Forest, Tourism, and Rural Development, signify a holistic approach to ensure the successful execution of sustainable eco-tourism initiatives. As the state endeavours to strike a balance between tourism and environmental conservation, these projects exemplify a promising step towards responsible and lucrative tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
