Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Launches Water Sports At Gobind Sagar Lake To Propel Tourism

In a significant move to boost tourism and generate employment opportunities in Himachal Pradesh, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a new range of water sports activities at Gobind Sagar Lake in Mandi Bharari, Bilaspur. The launch event introduced cruises, shikara rides, houseboats, hi-tech motorboats, jet skis, and water scooters, marking a landmark development for tourism in the region.

CM Sukhu expressed optimism about the positive impact these water sports activities would have on tourism, employment, and local businesses. "This initiative will open up extensive employment opportunities for the local youth and provide a sustainable income source for small and women entrepreneurs, who can now use this platform to market their products," he said. He emphasised that the project would strengthen the regional economy by creating a new marketplace and promoting local industries.

Highlighting his vision for Bilaspur as a top-tier tourism destination, Sukhu compared the district's potential to renowned tourist spots such as Kerala and Goa. "With our development of water sports alongside religious, rural, and eco-tourism, Bilaspur is poised to become a premier attraction in Himachal Pradesh," he added. He noted that the government's tourism initiatives would enhance the state's profile, offering tourists a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and thrilling adventure activities.

In addition to Gobind Sagar Lake, CM Sukhu announced plans for similar developments at the Kol Dam reservoir. The Bilaspur district administration has initiated the tender process for cruises and shikara rides at Kol Dam. A scenic 30-kilometre cruise route will soon connect Harnoda in the Bilaspur district to Tattapani in the Shimla district, promising tourists a unique travel experience through picturesque landscapes as they cruise towards Shimla via Kol Dam.

Demonstrating his enthusiasm for the project, the CM took a jet ski ride and participated in a scenic cruise during the event, underscoring the state government's dedication to promoting adventure and eco-tourism. "Our government's commitment to tourism and economic development remains strong. In less than two years, we've turned Bilaspur into a water sports hub," he said, adding that the initiative is a testament to the state government's focus on innovative tourism strategies.

Speaking to the media, Sukhu reiterated the state government's vision to make tourism a leading sector for growth, underscoring the green industry's role in attracting sustainable investments. "Himachal Pradesh has numerous water bodies with untapped potential for water sports, and we are dedicated to making the most of these resources," he stated.

Several prominent dignitaries, including Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HPTDC Chairman RS Bali, former ministers, party leaders, and district officials, accompanied the Chief Minister to the event.
