High in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas, where snow-covered peaks reflect in the still waters of a glacial lake, lies Hemkund Sahib—one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Sikhism. Located at an elevation of 4,329 metres, the Gurudwara draws thousands of devotees each year who undertake the demanding mountain journey in search of spiritual solace and divine blessings. The annual yatra for 2026 began on May 23 with the opening of the shrine’s portals and will continue until the second week of October, after which heavy snowfall will once again blanket the region and bring pilgrim movement to a halt.
