Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, near the India-China border, has been experiencing unusually heavy and prolonged snowfall since the evening of February 11. This extreme weather has disrupted essential services, including electricity, water supply, and communication networks, making daily life difficult for residents.
The district administration, in collaboration with the army and other organisations, is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating emergency response efforts. Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official advisories for their safety.
In response to the severe snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, multiple government agencies have mobilised crews to restore essential services. Security personnel are actively assisting stranded tourists and commuters, particularly in the Sela and Jaswantgarh areas, where the snowfall has made travel extremely difficult.
Despite its harsh winters, Arunachal Pradesh remains one of India's most beautiful travel destinations, offering a mix of adventure, culture, and spirituality. Tawang, in particular, is a major attraction known for its landscapes, Buddhist monasteries, and historical significance. The Tawang Monastery, one of the largest in India, draws both spiritual seekers and history enthusiasts.
For nature lovers, Sela Pass and Madhuri Lake (Sangestar Tso) offer mesmerising views, especially when snow is covered. Adventure enthusiasts can explore trekking routes like the Bailey Trail or visit the picturesque Dirang Valley. The region is also rich in tribal culture, with festivals such as Losar (Tibetan New Year) adding charm.
While winter brings challenging conditions, summer (March to June) is the best time to visit, offering pleasant weather and clear skies. However, those seeking a true winter wonderland experience can witness Arunachal's snow-clad beauty, provided they are prepared for the cold and possible travel disruptions.
