Hampi And Karnataka's Backwaters To Get Seaplanes Soon

To enhance the tourism landscape, Tourism Minister HK Patil recently unveiled plans by the Karnataka government to introduce seaplane services to some of the state’s popular destinations. This initiative aims to give tourists a unique perspective of Karnataka's stunning scenery. By launching this innovative transportation option, the Karnataka government hopes to attract more visitors and showcase the region's diverse beauty like never before.

Visitors will have the opportunity to journey above the ancient ruins of Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its breathtaking temples and rich history. The seaplanes will also fly over the waters of KRS (Krishna Raja Sagara), where travellers can enjoy the serene beauty of the reservoir surrounded by lush greenery. Additionally, the Almatti backwaters, with their tranquil vistas and vibrant ecosystem, will be easily accessible.

Patil said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also talked about the initiative during the inaugural session of the two-day Karnataka International Travel Expo (KITE) on Wednesday. Speaking to the media at KITE's B2B meetings launch in Bengaluru, Minister Patil detailed the government’s strategic commitment to enhancing connectivity to these tourist destinations across the state.

Showcasing Hidden Gems

Patil said that Karnataka is making a concerted effort to promote lesser-known yet stunning locations, often referred to as "tourism gems." These hidden treasures are poised to attract visitors who are seeking unique experiences away from the more popular tourist spots. To support this strategic vision, the government is reportedly implementing significant enhancements to the state’s infrastructure, including upgrades to railways, roads, and other transportation facilities, which will improve accessibility to these beautiful locations.

In terms of expanding Karnataka’s global outreach efforts, Patil discussed ongoing collaborations with the Ministry of External Affairs to develop a dedicated website. This site will serve as a comprehensive resource, providing detailed information about Karnataka’s diverse tourist destinations in multiple foreign languages. This initiative aims to attract a wider international audience and promote the state as a desirable travel destination.

Virtual Tours

Furthermore, Patil announced the launch of Karnataka’s first 3D virtual tour featuring heritage sites that are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). These innovative immersive 3D short films will highlight 20 to 30 significant temples and cultural heritage locations across the state. By offering this digital experience, the project aims to showcase Karnataka’s rich cultural history and make it accessible to a global audience, allowing viewers to explore the state's architectural marvels and heritage sites from the comfort of their homes.
