Grand Egyptian Museum All Set To Open In 2020

The land of pharaohs, temples, and tombs, Egypt is home to many wonders. Adding another feather to its cap is the new antiquities museum &mdash Grand Egyptian Museum, touted to be the largest in the world. There have been several speculations about the opening date of the archaeological museum. But the wait is finally over. The long-delayed museum will finally open its doors to visitors in the last quarter of 2020. 

This mega museum in Giza will showcase Tutankhamun&rsquos burial treasures for the first time, all at the same place, including 2,000 artefacts that have never been made public before. The much-anticipated project was first started in 2006 but got delayed due to the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. But now, it is set to kick start by the end of this year. 

Sprawling over an area of nearly 500,000 square metres, approximately 90% of the construction work and artefact transfer has already been done. Located near the Giza pyramids, the complex will include entertainment hubs like restaurants, theatres, conference hall, and a playground. Reportedly, the hotels in the area are undergoing renovation in order to accommodate the massive influx of tourists which the museum is expected to draw.

According to news reports, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled-al-Anany recently revealed the ticket prices for the Grand Egyptian Museum. While foreign tourists will be charged LE400, foreign students, on the other hand, will be charged LE 200. For Egyptian visitors, the entry fee will be LE60 and for Egyptian students, it will be LE30. The museum has also installed security systems that will keep a check on the number of times a tourist visits the museum. As per a statement by the minister, the Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest collection of antiquities belonging to a single culture.
