Chicago, Get Ready For Frida Kahlo 2020

Summer of 2020 will witness one of the largest exhibits of artist Freda Kahlo in Chicago. The Cleve Carney Museum of Art and the McAninch Arts Center in partnership with College of DuPage will host the exhibition. The exhibition will witness the works of Kahlo familiarising the visitors with the context behind the art. The exhibit is also the largest in 40 years with 26 original works by the artist, loaned from the Museo Dolores Olmedo in Mexico City.

The exhibition titled Frida Kahlo 2020 will be held at Glen Ellyn campus.

&ldquoThis comprehensive presentation of the life and works of the artist Frida Kahlo will feature 26 original pieces as well as an immersive historical exhibit that provides a framework of the life, circumstances and events that led to Kahlo becoming one of the most important painters of the 20th century and of our time,&rdquo quotes the Cleve Carney Museum of Art&rsquos website.

Frida Kahlo 2020 considers the many elements at play in Kahlo&rsquos work. The complexities of Kahlo&rsquos paintings cannot be fully understood or appreciated without insight into her person and the world she was a part of.  &ldquoThis unique collection of works is deeply tied to Kahlo&rsquos personal narrative. It covers an arc of her life and career,&rdquo said Justin Witte, Cleve Carney Art Gallery Director and exhibition curator. &ldquoIt&rsquos a full arc tied into her person and covers her accident, which is when she started to create self-portraits,&rdquo stated the college&rsquos website.

The exhibit begins in June 2020. However, building up to the exhibit are events such as various lectures, workshops and other events during the spring 2020 semester, first look for sponsors May 2020 along with a closing event in August 2020.
