Frankfurt Sees Surge In Indian Tourists, Expects Further Growth In 2025

Frankfurt is fast emerging as a key European destination for Indian travellers, with 2024 marking a significant rise in arrivals. Over 2,00,000 Indians visit Germany annually, and Frankfurt—being a major entry point—has witnessed a 10 per cent surge, a trend expected to continue in 2025, notes a press release issued by the tourism board.

The increase is driven by enhanced flight connectivity, growing business ties, and a rising appreciation for Frankfurt’s cultural offerings. The city’s airport now handles over 70 direct flights from India each week, with Lufthansa and Air India seeing a 15 per cent annual rise in demand on the Frankfurt-Delhi and Frankfurt-Mumbai routes. Leisure travellers are drawn to Frankfurt’s historical landmarks, arts scene, and Main River cruises, while its strong business infrastructure continues to attract MICE delegates.

Frankfurt Prepares For More Tourists

Tourism in Frankfurt saw a notable boost in 2024, with Indian visitor numbers rising from 32,082 in 2023 to 42,061. Overnight stays also jumped 24 per cent to 101,754, driven by a steady influx of corporate visitors in October and November and a surge in December due to the renowned Christmas market.

Compared to other German cities, Frankfurt posted an 8.2 per cent growth in overnight stays, ranking fourth after Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg. It secured the third position for international overnight stays.

To further tap into the Indian market, the Frankfurt Tourism Board has intensified its outreach with targeted campaigns and participation in Indian travel trade events like OTR. Collaborative efforts with Indian travel agents have led to tailored itineraries featuring museums, festivals, and bespoke experiences.

Looking ahead, Frankfurt aims to attract more Indian luxury travellers, expecting a 25–30 per cent increase in the next five years through high-end hospitality, Indian-inspired gastronomy, and exclusive leisure experiences. The city is poised to solidify its status as a premier European travel hub.
