Domestic Tourism In Rajasthan Up 12 Times Since 2020

In the colourful state of Rajasthan, tourism has grown remarkably, indicating resilience in the face of challenges. Over the past four years, despite the onset of the pandemic, there has been a twelve-fold increase in domestic tourism, which is an impressive achievement. Additionally, there has been a noticeable increase in foreign visitors, which suggests that Rajasthan is regaining its status as a top destination.

The Recent Data

The Tourism Department has released data showing that in 2020 alone, more than 1.51 crore domestic tourists visited Rajasthan to explore its rich cultural and historical heritage. This number has increased significantly in the following years, with 17.90 crore tourists visiting the state by 2023. From January 2020 to December 2023, Rajasthan welcomed 32.44 crore domestic tourists, which is a clear indication of the state's growing popularity.

During recent times, the number of tourists visiting Rajasthan increased significantly, with over 2.22 million foreign visitors coming to the state to enjoy its timeless beauty. Daleep Singh Rathore, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, has attributed this surge to the state's enduring charm, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic-induced restrictions, which have piqued the interest of both domestic and foreign travellers.

Notable Visitations

With the new government at the helm, Rajasthan is poised to become a leader in the tourism sector. Recent visits by high-profile dignitaries such as Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala and French President Emmanuel Macron have boosted the state's international reputation and highlighted its allure as a top destination for global elites.

Immanent Plans

Leading the charge in developing tourism in Rajasthan is Diya Kumari, who is a member of the Jaipur royal family and currently serves as the Deputy Chief Minister in charge of tourism. Kumari actively engages with foreign delegations and devises a strategic plan to elevate Rajasthan's tourism infrastructure to global standards. She emphasises the importance of collaboration across sectors and has set an agenda to improve connectivity and hospitality services, ensuring an unparalleled experience for visitors.

During a session in the Rajasthan Assembly, Kumari shared the latest tourism figures, revealing that in 2023 alone, Rajasthan witnessed a staggering influx of nearly 18 crore domestic and 17 lakh foreign tourists. This impressive growth trajectory underscores Rajasthan's status as a premium destination for discerning travellers keen to immerse themselves in its rich cultural tapestry.

Hopes For The Future

Stakeholders in the hospitality sector are feeling optimistic about new opportunities on the horizon as the tourism industry experiences a resurgence. The recent visit of French President Macron to Jaipur has sparked hope of a revival, especially among French tourists who previously formed a large portion of foreign visitors. M Hussain, President of the Jaipur Hotels Association, is hopeful that tourism will be reinvigorated, reflecting the overall positive sentiment and potential for growth.
