Delhi Unveils Four Tourism Circuits To Showcase Its Spiritual And Heritage Side

Delhi is looking to change the way travellers experience the capital. At the first Spiritual & Heritage Tourism Conclave 2026, held at Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple on August 11, the Delhi government unveiled four new tourism circuits connecting 21 spiritual, cultural and heritage attractions across the city.

The initiative is aimed at moving Delhi beyond its image as a transit point for travellers heading elsewhere in India and positioning it as a year-round destination for religious, spiritual and heritage tourism.

Speaking at the conclave, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the capital as a “microcosm” of India, pointing to the many communities, traditions and festivals that coexist in the city. “People often treat Delhi merely as a transit point. However, through this platform, I want to tell the people of the entire country that Delhi is a reflection of India–a microcosm where the essence of the whole nation is visible,” Gupta said.

She added that the government wants visitors to experience not only Delhi’s historical landmarks but also its spiritual character.

Four New Circuits Across Delhi

The four circuits bring together places of worship, historic monuments and cultural landmarks based on their geographical proximity. The routes are named "Soul of Delhi," "Heritage of Delhi," "Sacred Harmony" and "Echoes of Delhi".

The first circuit includes Gurudwara Sri Bangla Sahib, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Agrasen Ki Baoli, the Bahá’í Lotus Temple and Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple.

The second connects Birla Mandir, Jhandewalan Temple, Jantar Mantar, Jagannath Temple and Yogmaya Temple.

The third brings together Prachin Hanuman Mandir, Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Memorial, Purana Qila and Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah.

The fourth links Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, the Buddha Jayanti Park Temple, Cathedral Church of the Redemption, Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Chhatarpur Temple.

Together, the circuits are designed to bring different aspects of Delhi’s religious and cultural landscape into a single travel experience.

Beyond Monuments And Sightseeing

The government says the circuits are intended to offer travellers a more immersive way of experiencing Delhi, bringing together its religious traditions, architecture, history and living culture.

The idea is also to encourage visitors to spend more time in the city instead of passing through it on their way to other destinations.

Influencers To Experience The Routes

As part of the launch, selected travel influencers are expected to experience the circuits from August 12 and showcase them to audiences in India and overseas. The government has said the routes will focus on eco-friendly tourism while connecting some of the capital’s most significant landmarks.

The conclave brought together political leaders, spiritual figures and representatives from the hospitality and tourism sectors. Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was also present and delivered the keynote address.

While the four circuits have now been announced, details on their operational timeline, investment, infrastructure upgrades and the involvement of local businesses are expected to determine how the initiative takes shape on the ground.

With major attractions now brought under four proposed routes, the bigger challenge will be balancing increased visitor numbers with the protection of Delhi’s historic and religious sites.
