Watch the year's best Indian cinema in Delhi over the course of next week

Watch the Best of Indian Cinema 2016-2017 at the Habitat Film Festival (from May 19-28). Commenting on the 12th edition of the festival, Vidyun M. Singh, Director, Programmes IHC, says, A pick of the best from different states and languages-films that mirror issues of life as they are today, films that reconstruct times gone, fictional stories on fantastical canvases taking on political issues and social history. Films that bridge the gap between the metropolis and the outlying, and films that may seemingly be dealing with local issues but resonate with societies on a global level.

Giving a glimpse Debutants include Konkona Sensharma (A Death in The Gunj) Avinash Das (Anaarkali of Aarah) Subhashish Bhutiani (Mukti Bhawan) Rima Das (Antardrishti- Man with the Binoculars) Ananya Kasaravalli (Harikatha Prassanga / Chronicles of Hari), K.P Vyasan (Ayaal Jeevichirupund) to name a few. The retrospective segment this year is a tribute to Om Puri.

Filmmakers attending the festival include Malayalam director Adoor Gopalakrishnan with his filmPinneyum/Once Again Bengali director Kaushik Ganguly with his two features, Bastushaap andBisorjon Bengali director Buddhadeb Dasgupta with his film Tope/The Bait Marathi director Nagral Manjule for Sairat and more.

There will also be panel discussionFilm making Past & Present Challenges of The Future. Panelists include Govind Nihalani, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Ananya Kasaravalli, Avinash Das, moderated by film critic Shubhra Gupta. Also there will be an exhibition of selected writings and film posters of Khwaja Ahmad Abbas.
