Dehradun-Delhi Expressway Set To Open In January 2025; Travel Time To Be Reduced To 2.5 Hours

The much-anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is set to open in January 2025, and it's bound to change the way we travel between Delhi and Dehradun. Stretching over 210 kilometres, this new expressway will dramatically shorten the travel time, cutting it from the current 6.5 hours down to just 2.5 hours. This ambitious project, spearheaded by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), is a key part of the government's Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative, which aims to improve road networks across India. With an investment of INR 13,000 crore, the expressway will connect Delhi to Dehradun, passing through towns like Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur. The new road will not only make travel faster but will also improve connectivity in surrounding regions such as Loni, Ghaziabad, Sonia Vihar, and Karawal Nagar, stimulating local businesses and boosting economic growth.

One of the standout features of the expressway is its 12 km elevated wildlife corridor that runs above Rajaji National Park. This innovative design will allow animals to safely cross the road while maintaining the free flow of traffic, striking a balance between infrastructure development and wildlife conservation. Additionally, the expressway will be equipped with a host of safety measures, including trauma centres, ambulances, fire brigades, and emergency services, along with sturdy railings and wildlife fencing to minimize accidents and ensure a safe journey.

To further enhance the travel experience, the expressway will include convenient amenities such as bus bays, truck stops, interchanges, and rest areas where travellers can relax and refresh. These facilities will provide much-needed breaks during the long drive, making the journey more comfortable. The project also takes environmental considerations seriously, with greenery along the central divider and other eco-friendly elements to protect the surrounding landscape.

The expressway is expected to be a big boost for tourism as well.
