The Thai government has come up with the idea of converting golf courses into quarantine centres for foreigners

While the pandemic is still cancelling a few travel plans for holidaymakers, countries are coming up with creative ideas of dealing with the present situation in some rather unique ways.

Thailand has pitched the idea of converting half a dozen golf courses to state quarantine institutions for foreign tourists. That should make things more palatable in case you do fall sick.

As Thailand reopens its borders to tourism gradually, six golf resorts have been approved by the government as quarantine centres.

Of these, three are located in the Kanchanaburi province, and have provisions of roaming around freely, and games/activities for those quarantining there.

This has come as a relief for foreigners quarantining in Thailand, as they won&rsquot have to stay confined to their rooms.

After an earlier offer of special long-stay vistas, Thai authorities have come up with this new and lucrative idea to reinvigorate tourism in the country.

The tourism industry of Thailand constitutes a fifth of Thailand&rsquos gross domestic product and with the pandemic, it has faced severe losses.

While the previous travel ban has now been lifted for tourists visiting the country, they will still require essential documents like visas, medical insurance, travel insurance and a certificate for entry, as per the current regulations.
