Chennai metro rail begins operation

Chennai the sixth Indian city to have a metro rail

In its first phase, the Chennai Metro Rail will run from the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus to Alandur. The fare for the 10-km elevated stretch will range from Rs 10 to Rs 40. Initially, there will be nine trains running between Koyambedu and Alandur with a frequency of about 10 minutes. The trains will take around 19 minutes to cover 7 stations.
