Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE) remains a towering figure, renowned for his military prowess and vast empire from Greece to India. His legacy endured for centuries, influencing subsequent rulers, particularly Caracalla. Interestingly, a similar portrait of Alexander adorns a decorative disc found on a shield recovered from Illerup Ådal near Skanderborg, Denmark. This archaeological site, renowned for its sacrificial offerings, unveiled artefacts, including shields adorned with portraits akin to the newly discovered mount from Ringsted. One such shield fitting from Illerup Ådal is currently showcased at the Moesgård Museum.
