Delhi to Mumbai in an Electric Car

The first electric vehicle (EV) journey from Delhi to Mumbai came to an end on September 9, 2020. It was conducted by BluSmart to demonstrate that India is ready for long distance electric commercial vehicle rides. The journey covering a distance of 1564km has saved almost 105kg of CO2 emissions.

The journey from Delhi began on September 4 with the aim of reaching Mumbai on September 9 which is celebrated as World EV Day. It was a fully electric journey with zero emission and a noiseless ride. The electric car had to be fast charged five times and slow charged six times during the journey. Some fast-charging stations were en route but not available at all locations. So the car had to make use of slow charging equipments from restaurants, motels and shops near the highway.

As per the words of founder Anmol Jaggi, the mission of BluSmart, an electric ride hailing platform, on this journey was to demonstrate that the country is ready for electric vehicles and the time is right for making intelligent, affordable, efficient and sustainable transport system mainstream. They claim to have &ldquocreated a revolutionary way of mobility&rdquo that takes into consideration both the safety of the customers and the protection of environment.

On its trip the Mahindra e-Verito car passed through Neemrana, Jaipur, Pali, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Vapi before it finally reached Mumbai. BluSmart had taken a similar initiative in 2019 when the trip lasted from Delhi to Jaipur covering 260 km. The distance covered this year is six times that of the previous attempt.
