Ambala-Panchkula To Get New 6-Lane Highway, Boosting Travel And Connectivity

In a major infrastructure push for northern Haryana, Transport Minister Anil Vij has announced the development of a new six-lane national highway to strengthen direct connectivity between Ambala and Panchkula. The highway will stretch from Baldev Nagar (Ambala) to Khatoli village, located near Panchkula.

The announcement, made via an official statement, outlines the dual strategy of upgrading the existing NH-72 from Baldev Nagar to Handsera and developing a greenfield alignment to complete the new route. Once completed, this corridor will link NH-44 and NH-344, facilitating faster travel and easing traffic congestion between the two cities.

Vij also confirmed the upgrade of the Ambala–Saha Road. A new four-lane stretch will be constructed from Indira Chowk to GT Road (Jaggi City Centre), adjacent to Ambala's upcoming domestic airport. This move is expected to significantly enhance airport accessibility and support regional growth.

The minister highlighted that he had previously written to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to prioritise the project. Following his request, Gadkari directed the relevant authorities to commence the planning and construction process.

"This highway will not only improve connectivity within Haryana but also strengthen links with neighbouring Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh," Vij said, underlining the project's broader impact on the northern region's transportation network.

Besides improving road infrastructure, the project is expected to have a multiplier effect on the local economy. Enhanced connectivity is likely to boost commerce, tourism, trade, and employment, especially around Ambala and its soon-to-be-operational airport.
