All About The Soon-To-Be-Opened Elevated Forest Walkway In Mumbai

Mumbai is all set to welcome a unique addition to its cityscape—an elevated forest walkway. Located in the picturesque Malabar Hill area, this ambitious eco-friendly project by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) promises to offer Mumbaikars a serene escape amidst nature right in the city's heart.

A Scenic Stroll Above The Forest

Stretching 705 meters, this elevated walkway is designed to connect Kamala Nehru Park to the lush Doongerwadi woods. Inspired by Singapore’s famous forest walkways, it combines urban innovation with environmental conservation. The wooden structure blends with the surroundings, ensuring minimal disturbance to the hill’s natural water flow and wildlife.

As you walk along the deck, you’ll enjoy the vistas of the Arabian Sea, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful morning or evening stroll.

Nature lovers and birdwatching enthusiasts will find the walkway especially appealing. A dedicated birdwatching area allows visitors to observe the avian life of the region. If that’s not exciting enough, a glass-bottom deck offers a thrilling perspective of the forest below.

Entry And Accessibility

The walkway’s entry and exit points are conveniently located at Siri Road, just behind Kamala Nehru Park. Its design blends urban development with sustainability, as the wooden deck harmonises beautifully with the greenery.

The project is being developed with a nearly complete INR 25 crore budget. Around 90 per cent of the civil work has been finished, with tasks like electrification, painting, and setting up restrooms and ticket counters still underway. The BMC aims to wrap everything up by the end of the year, making it a delightful New Year’s gift for Mumbai residents.
