In a bid to enhance tourism in the archipelago, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are implementing various measures, including granting access to uninhabited islands, extending beach hours, and establishing partnerships with additional airline operators.

Chief Secretary Keshav Chandra mentioned the development of a five-star property at Megapode in Port Blair through PPP mode and leasing land at Radha Nagar Beach in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island). As part of these initiatives, eco-friendly tourism infrastructure will be introduced on four islands and 11 tourist sites.

Extended Beach Hours

Beaches are now accessible late at night for tourists to appreciate the landscape and bio-luminescence. Chandra stated that initiatives are underway to connect with additional airline operators, aiming for competitive and affordable tourist ticket pricing.

International Connectivity

The administration is examining options for international connectivity from Port Blair, particularly with Southeast Asian countries where tourism plays a significant role in the economy. Chandra mentioned that this may result in more economical air connectivity to these countries due to their proximity to Port Blair.

Access to various uninhabited islands for tourism activities has been granted, with Cinque Island recently opened for day tourism in high-value and low-volume tourism categories. Seaplane services will soon operate from Port Blair to various inter-island destinations.

The chief secretary mentioned that the final stages are being reached for different policies promoting tourism activities such as bird watching, caravan, houseboat, and luxury tent accommodation. Efforts are underway to enhance the nightlife experience, with existing facilities including night-cruise dinner at Port Blair, along with houseboat and night kayaking, Chandra added.
