As domestic flights resume operations in the country after a travel ban due to COVID-19, AirAsia is starting its operations in around 21 destinations with 77 flights today (25 May 2020). The airline will follow government SOPs and guidelines stringently to keep health and hygiene as a priority.

All aircraft have HEPA-filtration systems that apparently work against 99.9 percent of viruses, bacterias and dust particles, similar to those used in surgical rooms. Sunil Bhaskaran, MD & CEO, AirAsia India said, &ldquo...The precautions [being] taken and preparedness displayed by the airlines and airport operators cohesively will reinstate air travel as the safest and fastest mode of transportation. As an airline, with its pillars standing firmly on the foundation of &lsquoBeing Guest Obsessed&rsquo and &lsquoSafety Always&rsquo, we will continue to incorporate measures on these underlying principles in all facets of our business.&rdquo

All passengers are required to do a web check-in, complete their self-declaration form and have the Aarogya Setu app on their phones. They are advised to reach the airport at least two hours before the flight to keep time for social distancing and health protocols.

All AirAsia flights will follow the reverse boarding process starting with the rear end. Only one check-in baggage and one carry-on will be allowed and each passenger will be given a face mask, face shield and sanitiser for use throughout the flight. No meals will be served on-board and all staff will have adequate PPE. Passengers will have to follow all airline protocols until they exit the terminal.
