Air traffic at Srinagar Airport faces a second day of trouble as intermittent snowfall and poor visibility has caused the cancellation of more than 8 flights in the past two days. Tourists who had arrived in Kasmir for the New Year celebrations are finding it hard to find their way back home.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department, light to moderate snowfall in Srinagar shall be witnessed up till Saturday, January 8.

Kashmir is currently under the &lsquoChillai Kalan&rsquo which is a 40 day long period of harsh winter chills where the temperature is likely to go down to single digits and the place is likely to experience heavy snowfall. This period of an intense cold usually subsides by the end of January.

Among cancelled flights were largely those of Indigo and others of Vistara, Spice Jet, Air India, and Air Asia. The airport authorities on Tuesday had assured the passengers that the cancelled flights shall be rescheduled with no extra charges and had also demanded cooperation on their part.

Some desperate passengers took to Twitter and questioned the airport for not having a CAT-II landing system and relying only on visual cues. The authorities have assured them of initiating the process of installation of the system by April 2022.

As per the latest information, the visibility has reduced to 300M and all Indigo and SpiceJet flights stand cancelled for today.
