Air India Launches Non-Stop Service Between Delhi And Newark

Air India, India’s premier global airline, has introduced its state-of-the-art A350-900 aircraft for non-stop flights between Delhi and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This launch follows the successful inauguration of Air India’s A350 service on the Delhi-New York (JFK) route on November 1, 2024, enhancing connectivity and providing travellers unparalleled convenience and comfort.

With this new service, Air India connects India’s capital to the New York region with non-stop flights on its state-of-the-art A350 aircraft. In celebration of the launch, Air India's cabin crew embarked on an exciting cinematic journey through New York City, recreating iconic moments and discovering landmarks made famous in beloved Hollywood and Bollywood films. Clad in stylish new uniforms designed by Manish Malhotra, they strolled through the vibrant city, radiating enthusiasm for the arrival of the 'new Air India experience' in New York.

Recreating An Iconic Photograph

Air India cabin crew members commemorated a significant moment in history by recreating the iconic photograph "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper," originally taken in 1932. This famous image features ironworkers enjoying a casual lunch break on a beam high above the construction site of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The Air India crew took the opportunity to embody the spirit of innovation and adventure captured in this striking photograph atop Rockefeller Plaza.

On Gapstow Bridge

Gapstow Bridge was another place where the crew took photos. The enchanting beauty and vibrant greenery that envelop Gapstow Bridge in Central Park make it an irresistible destination for filmmakers throughout the ages. This iconic spot is where Kevin McCallister first encounters the unforgettable pigeon lady in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," and it also serves as the stunning backdrop for the captivating "Runway Jungle" photo shoot in "The Devil Wears Prada."

The Steps Of The MET

Another iconic New York location featured in the crew's shoot is the grand staircase of The MET, which leads up to the museum's entrance. This striking architectural feature has been the backdrop for numerous TV shows and films. The MET steps frequently appeared in the popular drama series Gossip Girl and in the heist movie Ocean's 8. Additionally, the famous “pecan pie” scene from When Harry Met Sally, where Harry and Sally discuss having "too much pepper on paprikash," was also filmed here.

At Times Square

The Air India crew also strolled along the bustling sidewalks of Times Square, illuminated by its vibrant neon lights. This iconic tourist attraction has appeared in numerous Bollywood and Hollywood films. Whether it's the compelling imagery of Tom Cruise running alone through Times Square in "Vanilla Sky," the lively flashmob scene from "Friends with Benefits," or Preity Zinta's joyful dance in the Bollywood movie "Kal Ho Naa Ho," Times Square captivates audiences both on the big screen and in real life.

The New York Cabs

The iconic yellow cabs, which have become a staple in countless movies set in New York City, were also featured in the shoot. These taxis represent more than just a means of transportation; they symbolise the hustle and bustle of urban life and often play active roles in the plots. New York taxis are true cinematic icons, whether they appear in a brief cameo or serve as a central element.

At The Pierre Hotel

The iconic scene from Scent of a Woman, featuring Frank (played by Al Pacino) and Donna (played by Gabrielle Anwar) dancing the tango, was filmed at The Pierre Hotel. This stunning location served as a perfect backdrop for their passionate dance, making it one of the most memorable moments in the film. The Air India crew recently visited the beautiful Rotunda Room at The Pierre Hotel in Manhattan to commemorate this iconic movie scene.

Under Queensborough Bridge, Sutton Place Park

The 1979 classic "Manhattan," directed by Woody Allen, is celebrated for its stunning portrayal of New York City and inspired the Air India cabin crew members. They located the exact spot from the film and recreated the memorable scene where Isaac Davis, played by Woody Allen, and Mary Wilkie, portrayed by Diane Keaton, sit beneath the Queensboro Bridge. In this scene, they admire the view and converse until dawn. An image from this moment also became the film's iconic poster.
