With the increase in coronavirus cases, around the concluding month of 2020, travel restrictions that had taken a backseat, are being re-imposed.

Under a public health order, a mandatory 10-day quarantine is the new rule for anyone visiting San Francisco. This new travel quarantine order came into effect from midnight Friday, and will remain in effect until January 4, 2020.

The order is applicable to anyone coming into the city, including residents who are returning to San Francisco from nearby counties like San Mateo, Contra Costa, Santa Cruz, Marin, Napa, and Solano. People passing through the San Francisco airport, and not actually halting for a stay in the city, are exempt from the quarantine order. Coronavirus cases have spiked lately in San Francisco and restriction-free travel, at such a time, would be a risk.

The Bay Area hospitals are close to being overwhelmed and running short of resources, with the recent surge in the COVID-19 infected cases. The quarantine rules in San Francisco at the moment are on the strict side, people are not being allowed to go to work, visit anyone, or leave the house. Food and other essentials are to be delivered to those who are quarantining. Any violation of the orders issued for quarantine might result in a fine or even imprisonment, or both. A ban on outdoor dining, which was reinforced lately is being debated upon by San Francisco elected officials.
