A groundbreaking duo of attractions is set to debut in the historic Vivian Quarry located in the charming village of Llanberis, Gwynedd in North Wales. This project will feature an underwater museum, touted as the "world's first", allowing visitors to explore submerged art installations and marine life, alongside an immersive escape room experience that challenges participants to solve puzzles and unravel mysteries within a captivating themed environment.
While several underwater museums already exist globally, most cater primarily to adults. This museum, however, aims to break that mould by being a "world first" welcoming children as young as 10 years old to explore its depths.
The upcoming attraction in Wales is set to feature three main components: an underwater museum, a dedicated scuba school, and submerged escape rooms, promising a unique experience for visitors. Situated in an abandoned mining quarry that has been submerged for two decades, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into Welsh history in an exciting and immersive manner.
As divers enter the quarry, they will have the chance to uncover the remnants of a bygone era, including deserted buildings and historic mining equipment, all shrouded beneath 19 meters of water. They will encounter fascinating artifacts like a blast shelter, providing insight into the region’s industrial past and the stories that lie beneath the surface. Interestingly, Vivian Quarry is a component part of the Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is part of the larger Dinorwig Slate Quarry complex and is now a popular spot for diving and potentially an underwater museum.
Adding to the allure of the attraction, the submerged escape rooms offer participants an exhilarating challenge. Each underwater chamber is equipped with cutting-edge technology that enhances the immersive experience of the escape game. Designed to accommodate between one and six players, each session lasts approximately 40 minutes, requiring participants to solve puzzles and work together to escape while navigating the unique underwater environment.
