Airports are rarely described as calm, but Virgin Atlantic is trying to change that narrative—at least for its Upper Class passengers passing through London Heathrow. The airline has unveiled the first phase of a refreshed Clubhouse at the airport, introducing a redesigned lounge that leans into comfort, creativity, and a touch of theatrical flair.

The revamped space brings together several new features, including a cinema lounge, dedicated work pods, an invitation-only VIP retreat known as the Royal Box, and a reimagined Gallery area. The idea, the airline says, is to create a pre-flight environment that feels less like an airport lounge and more like a carefully curated space where passengers can relax, work, or simply enjoy the anticipation of travel.

Juha Jaervinen, Chief Customer Officer at Virgin Atlantic, says the upgrade reflects the airline’s broader vision for customer experience. “The Clubhouse is an iconic part of the Virgin Atlantic experience, and we’re proud to be unveiling a bold new chapter at Heathrow. This investment reflects our commitment to continually innovating for our customers, combining wellbeing, entertainment and distinctive design in a way only Virgin Atlantic can,” he said.

A VIP Retreat

One of the standout additions is the Royal Box, a private area designed as what the airline calls “the best seats in the house.” Originally introduced in the airline’s Los Angeles Clubhouse, the concept now arrives at Heathrow with unmistakable Virgin Atlantic flair. Dressed unapologetically in the brand’s signature red palette, the space blends references to pop culture and British royalty with elements of the airline’s heritage.

The Royal Box is invitation-only, offering travellers a more secluded retreat away from the main lounge. Guests can enjoy uninterrupted runway views while gathering around the centrepiece—an eye-catching “Cabinet of Curiosities.” The bespoke table is designed to evolve throughout the day, presenting everything from indulgent sweet treats to celebratory champagne moments, with surprises built into the experience.

Beyond its theatrical aesthetic, the area reflects Virgin Atlantic’s approach to hospitality: playful, indulgent, and unmistakably on brand.

Work Meets Travel

For travellers who prefer productivity over indulgence—or a bit of both—the Clubhouse now includes two new studio-style work pods. Named The Townhouse and The Manor, these spaces pay homage to Virgin Records’ historic recording studios.

The design nods to music heritage with studio-inspired artwork and details, but the spaces are built with modern work needs in mind. Each pod includes integrated power points, sleek desk setups, and even illuminated “on air” signs that light up when the space is occupied. The idea is simple: provide travellers with a quiet, functional environment where work can continue seamlessly before boarding.

Meanwhile, the Gallery—often considered the most sought-after spot in the Clubhouse—has also been reimagined. Known for its sweeping runway views, the redesigned area now accommodates more guests while retaining its relaxed, airy feel.

Subtle design references tie the space to London itself, from hints of the city’s transport heritage to warm brass accents inspired by Virgin Atlantic’s aircraft tailfin. Pops of the airline’s signature red appear throughout the space, along with design details inspired by the Vivienne Westwood uniforms worn by cabin crew.

Art also plays a central role. The Gallery features commissioned works by UK-based artists, including a standout piece created from copies of the now-retired Vera inflight magazine. Another artwork comes via Artbox London, a charity that supports artists with autism and learning disabilities.

Wellness Before Flight

Beyond design and aesthetics, Virgin Atlantic is also leaning into wellness. Two pop-up experiences have been introduced as part of the Clubhouse refresh, aimed at helping travellers reset before their journey.

Until May 31, 2026, guests can try complimentary sessions in Somadomes—self-guided meditation pods that combine colour and light therapy, sound healing, and guided meditation. Each session lasts around 20 minutes and is designed to deliver a quick mental reset before boarding.

Alongside this, the airline has partnered with Secret Spa to offer a limited menu of treatments inside the lounge. Travellers can opt for express massages, facials, manicures, or other quick treatments using products from brands such as OSKIA and OPI. The partnership will run until April 30, and also highlights the airline’s new service to Seoul, with select K-beauty products included in the offering.

For Virgin Atlantic, the refreshed Clubhouse signals a broader shift in how airlines think about the airport experience—not just as a waiting period, but as part of the journey itself.

As Jaervinen puts it, “From our Royal Box to our new wellness partnerships, we’ve reimagined the pre-flight experience to deliver something truly memorable. And this is just the beginning—with even more exciting plans to come, including new ways for guests to make the most of plane spotting while soaking up the London sunshine from our roof terrace.”
