As more travellers head to destinations beyond India's major cities, hotel groups are expanding their presence in smaller cities and emerging tourism hubs. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the latest to strengthen its footprint, with three new Ramada Encore by Wyndham hotels in Ayodhya and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, and Kochi in Kerala.

The openings take the midscale brand's portfolio in India to 17 operational hotels and more than 1,000 keys. The expansion is aimed at meeting demand from pilgrimage, leisure and business travellers, particularly in destinations where tourism infrastructure is growing.

The three locations cater to different kinds of travellers. Ayodhya and Vrindavan draw pilgrims visiting some of Uttar Pradesh's most important religious destinations, while Kochi attracts business travellers and holidaymakers exploring Kerala.

According to figures cited in Wyndham's announcement, India recorded more than 4.3 billion domestic tourist visits in 2025, with Ayodhya alone attracting over 200 million visitors during the year. The growing number of visitors has increased the need for accommodation that can serve visitors with different budgets and travel purposes.

For Wyndham, expanding into these markets is part of a wider strategy to reach travellers beyond established metropolitan centres and India's traditional tourism gateways.

Ramada Encore Ayodhya Takpura Opens With 72 Rooms

One of the new properties, Ramada Encore by Wyndham Ayodhya Takpura, is located on National Highway 27, around four kilometres from the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.

The 72-room hotel caters to pilgrims, families and business travellers. It also has facilities for weddings, social celebrations and corporate gatherings, allowing it to accommodate guests visiting the city for reasons beyond religious tourism.

Mukesh Kumar Jaiswal of Saryu Ratna Hotel & Resort said Ayodhya's developing infrastructure was helping extend the city's appeal beyond the traditional pilgrimage season.

“Together with Wyndham, we are creating a hotel that brings the Wyndham Advantage and internationally recognised standards to Ayodhya while remaining rooted in the city's spiritual and cultural significance,” he said.

The opening comes as Ayodhya continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, creating opportunities for hotels that can cater to both seasonal peaks and year-round visitors.

Expanding Into Vrindavan And Kochi

The new hotels in Vrindavan and Kochi extend Ramada Encore's reach across two distinct travel markets.

Vrindavan is an important part of Uttar Pradesh's spiritual tourism circuit, drawing visitors to its temples and religious sites. Kochi, on the other hand, combines business activity and strong transport connections with leisure travel, serving as a gateway for visitors exploring Kerala.

By establishing a presence in these destinations, Wyndham is looking to cater to a wider range of domestic travellers while building its portfolio in markets with growing accommodation needs.

Wyndham's Midscale Growth Strategy

The expansion reflects Wyndham's focus on destinations where travel demand is becoming more diverse and frequent.

Rahool Macarius, market managing director for Eurasia at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, said the Ramada Encore brand was designed to adapt to the needs of different markets while offering a contemporary midscale experience.

“Our role is to pair the right brand with the right opportunity and give owners the distribution, technology, loyalty and operational support of the Wyndham Advantage to build a resilient hotel business,” he said.

Wyndham's growth in India also relies on franchise partnerships with local hotel owners. These arrangements give owners access to the company's distribution network, technology, loyalty programme and operational support, while allowing the brand to expand into new markets.

With 17 operational hotels and more than 1,000 keys, Ramada Encore is strengthening its position in India's midscale hospitality segment. The latest openings in Ayodhya, Vrindavan and Kochi reflect the growing role of regional destinations in the country's tourism and hotel development landscape.
