Delhi is looking to change the way travellers experience the capital. At the first Spiritual & Heritage Tourism Conclave 2026, held at Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple on August 11, the Delhi government unveiled four new tourism circuits connecting 21 spiritual, cultural and heritage attractions across the city.
The initiative is aimed at moving Delhi beyond its image as a transit point for travellers heading elsewhere in India and positioning it as a year-round destination for religious, spiritual and heritage tourism.
Speaking at the conclave, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the capital as a “microcosm” of India, pointing to the many communities, traditions and festivals that coexist in the city. “People often treat Delhi merely as a transit point. However, through this platform, I want to tell the people of the entire country that Delhi is a reflection of India–a microcosm where the essence of the whole nation is visible,” Gupta said.
She added that the government wants visitors to experience not only Delhi’s historical landmarks but also its spiritual character.
Four New Circuits Across Delhi
The four circuits bring together places of worship, historic monuments and cultural landmarks based on their geographical proximity. The routes are named "Soul of Delhi," "Heritage of Delhi," "Sacred Harmony" and "Echoes of Delhi".
The first circuit includes Gurudwara Sri Bangla Sahib, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Agrasen Ki Baoli, the Bahá’í Lotus Temple and Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple.
The second connects Birla Mandir, Jhandewalan Temple, Jantar Mantar, Jagannath Temple and Yogmaya Temple.
The third brings together Prachin Hanuman Mandir, Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Memorial, Purana Qila and Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah.
