Sri Lanka has launched a new online visa application system, making travel to the island nation easier. This development replaces the older Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) process, offering travellers a more streamlined and user-friendly experience worldwide.

The new system, created in collaboration with GBS Technology Service and IVS Global Institute, allows travellers to apply for visas directly through the Department of Immigration and Emigration's online portal. This eliminates the hassle of paper applications and simplifies the process for everyone.

With the new user-friendly online portal, travellers can expect faster turnaround times on their visa applications, thanks to the efficient online processing system. Plus, the clear and user-friendly interface guides applicants through each step, reducing the risk of errors and ensuring a smooth experience.

Not only this, but the online system also streamlines operations for Sri Lanka. The platform allows for better organisation and tracking of visa applications, making internal processes more efficient. Additionally, the system can generate data on visitor demographics and travel trends, which can be used to develop future tourism strategies.

New Visa Options

The launch of the online system coincides with the introduction of new visa categories, fees, and validity periods. Travellers now have a wider range of options, including the Standards and Entertainment Purposes Visa for long-term stays and the Standard Tourist Business Visa for those combining business with pleasure. Fees vary depending on nationality, with special rates for SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries.
