Officials announced that the annual mela at the renowned shrine of Baba Chamliyal near the International Border in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir will commence on June 27. The shrine, dedicated to Baba Dalip Singh Manhas, affectionately known as Baba Chamliyal, has historically symbolized the spirit of harmony between India and Pakistan, drawing thousands of devotees each year to the Ramgarh sector.

Since June 2018, there has been no visitation from delegations representing Pakistan following the unfortunate loss of four BSF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, in cross-border firing incidents.

Previously, representatives from Pakistan Rangers would visit the shrine to procure 'Shakkar' (clay) and 'Sharbat' (water), which are believed to possess healing properties against various skin ailments. Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma, presided over a meeting on Saturday to oversee the arrangements for the upcoming mela, urging relevant departments to expedite ongoing preparations to ensure its smooth execution.

The meeting focused on security measures, fire safety protocols, traffic management, and the deployment of medical personnel. Special attention was given to illuminating the area and establishing a 'Lost and Found' centre. A committee was formed to monitor the quality and pricing of food items sold during the mela.

The Roads and Buildings department was instructed to repair potholes on major roads leading to the shrine. Additionally, the Revenue, Police, and Transport departments identified suitable parking areas and installed signage.

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was directed to ensure a continuous water supply, with provisions for additional water tankers if needed. The Power Development Department (PDD) was also mandated to ensure adequate lighting and uninterrupted power supply throughout the event. The Tourism department was assigned to erect signage and banners to guide devotees, while various government departments were directed to set up stalls to educate visitors about governmental schemes and welfare initiatives.
