The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) is kicking off its 'North East Discovery' tour aboard the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train from Delhi this month, starting April 22, 2025.
This 15-day train journey will begin at Delhi's Safdarjung Railway Station, but you can also board at other locations, including Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Tundla, Etawah, and Kanpur. The entire trip will cover approximately 5,800 km by train, and journey through the Northeast.
The train will take you through the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, and West Bengal. The first stop on the IRCTC North East Discovery tour will be Guwahati, where you can explore the Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Temple, and take a sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River. Next, the train will take you to Sivasagar, the former capital of the Ahom Kingdom, where you will visit the famous Sivadol Temple and other historic sites. Following Sivasagar, you'll have the opportunity to visit the tea gardens in Jorhat. After that, you'll stay at Kaziranga and embark on an early morning jungle safari at Kaziranga National Park. The journey will then take you to Tripura, where you'll visit Unakoti, known as the "Angkor Wat of the North East," before continuing to Agartala and Udaipur. In this area, you can explore Ujjayanta Palace, Neermahal Palace, and Tripura Sundari Mandir.
From Tripura, the train will travel to Dimapur in Nagaland, where you'll visit Kohima and experience the Naga way of life in Khonoma village. After exploring Nagaland, the train will return to Guwahati before heading to Shillong in Meghalaya, with a stop at Umiam Lake along the way. In Shillong, you will visit attractions such as Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, and Mawsmai Caves. The final leg of the journey will bring you back to Guwahati, and from there, you will return to Delhi.
This initiative is part of the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train project, which aims to enhance tourism in the Northeastern states and promote their rich culture and natural heritage. The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train offers several amenities, including fully air-conditioned coaches, onboard security with CCTV surveillance, onboard infotainment, luxury accommodations in both deluxe and comfort classes, and tour escorts.
IRCTC's North East Discovery Tour's price range begins at INR 1,67,845 per person for AC 1 (coupe), INR 1,49,815 per person for AC1 (cabin), INR 1,29,915 per person in AC 2 Tier, and INR 1,16,905 in AC III (comfort) as an all-inclusive tour package. Train travel, hotel accommodation, meals, sightseeing, transport, and travel insurance are included in these packages.
