In response to the unprecedented heavy rains wreaking havoc across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Indian consulate in Dubai has initiated a support system for affected Indians and stranded travellers.

As torrential rains inundated the city and the northern Emirate of the UAE, disrupting normal life and causing the cancellation of flights at the Dubai International Airport, the consulate swiftly sprung into action.

In a communication shared on X, the consulate announced dedicated helpline numbers to assist the Indian community grappling with the aftermath of the extreme weather conditions. The provided numbers, including +971501205172, +971569950590, +971507347676, and +971585754213, are accessible to individuals encountering weather-related emergencies.

Expressing solidarity with those affected, the consulate assured continuous coordination with UAE authorities and airlines to facilitate the safe passage of stranded passengers. "Regular updates from airlines are being conveyed to travellers, and relief measures have been extended in association with Indian community organisations," stated the Indian Consulate.

Efforts have also been directed towards aiding stranded passengers reconnecting with their families in India. Emphasising their commitment to serving the Indian community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, the consulate affirmed that the helpline numbers would remain operational until normalcy is restored.

The UAE authorities are grappling with the aftermath of the heaviest recorded rainfall ever experienced in the desert nation. Dubai alone received over 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rain within 24 hours, far surpassing the average annual rainfall of 94.7 millimeters (3.73 inches) at Dubai International Airport.

The heavy rains overwhelmed drainage systems, flooding residential areas, commercial districts, and major thoroughfares like the Sheikh Zayed Road highway. Despite the challenges, concerted efforts are underway to restore normalcy and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors affected by the deluge.
