In an effort to ensure operational readiness and safety standards ahead of the monsoon season, Mumbai International Airport is set to undertake crucial pre-monsoon maintenance work on May 9, 2024.

According to an official release by airport operator Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), both the primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily closed for six hours, from 11 am to 5 pm local time. This closure forms part of the airport's proactive approach to maintaining its infrastructure and preparing for the challenges posed by the monsoon.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued well in advance in December, ensuring that airlines and other stakeholders have ample time to adjust flight schedules accordingly. Despite the closure, the airport will assure that travellers with flight movements will not be significantly impacted, with measures in place to minimise inconvenience.

The maintenance activities will involve thorough inspections and repairs to address wear and tear on the runway surfaces, which are crucial for ensuring safe and efficient aircraft operations. With an extensive network spanning 1,033 acres, Mumbai International Airport is committed to upholding the highest safety and service standards.

Travellers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and stay informed about any updates regarding the runway closure on May 9. By adhering to these guidelines, they can minimise any potential disruption to their travel plans.
