A senior WHO official has said that the COVID-19 vaccine should not be used for International travel, keeping in mind the various ethical reasons.

At a press conference on Monday, Dr. Michael Ryan,&nbspExecutive Director, WHO Health Emergencies Programme, said that there are &ldquoreal practical and ethical considerations" for countries considering using vaccine certification as a condition for travel. He added that the UN health agency advises against it for now.

He said that mandating vaccine passports would be an inequitable and unjustified decision, for those who cannot be vaccinated for various reasons. A vaccine cannot be made mandatory for international travel as it is not yet available across the globe on an equitable basis. He also added that the data is still being collated on how lasting the immunity is from the various licensed COVID-19 vaccines.
