India is on the brink of creating history, literally and figuratively. A newly announced museum, the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum, is all set to become the largest museum in the world, situated in the heart of New Delhi. Occupying an impressive 1.17 lakh sq m area, the museum will sprawl across the North and South blocks, symbolising the essence of India's rich history and diverse heritage.

The Museum

Comprising a remarkable 950 rooms spread over three storeys and a basement, this mammoth museum is envisioned to narrate the captivating story of India spanning a staggering 5,000 years. The museum's concept revolves around eight thematic segments, each meticulously crafted to showcase different periods of India's fascinating journey.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the grandeur of the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum on International Museum Day, celebrated on May 18. The occasion was marked by the launch of a virtual walkthrough of the museum, providing a glimpse into its magnificent galleries and lush gardens, captivating the imagination of visitors. The momentous inauguration took place during a three-day International Museum Expo at Pragati Maidan, Delhi. Simultaneously, PM Modi also graced the unveiling of the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex, a masterpiece developed at a cost of approximately Rs 2,700 crore, sprawling across a vast campus area of about 123 acres, now christened Bharat Mandapam.

A Walk Through History

The thematic segments of the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum will take visitors on an unforgettable journey through India's multifaceted history. The chronological depiction includes ancient Indian knowledge, the transition from ancient to medieval times, the medieval era, the shift from medieval to modern India, colonial rule by the Dutch, British, Portuguese, and others, the fervent freedom struggle, and the post-independence period up to the present day.

The exhibits in each gallery will offer profound insights into ancient town planning systems, the wisdom of the Vedas and Upanishads, and ancient medical knowledge, among others. The walkthrough would mention pivotal eras, including the illustrious Mauryan to Gupta Empires, the Vijayanagara Empire's grandeur, the Mughal Empire's captivating reign, and the intriguing rule of several other distinguished dynasties.
