If you are a marine enthusiast and fancy scuba diving or snorkelling, then Pondicherry is coming up with the perfect spot for you. INS Cuddalore, a minesweeper and decommissioned ship of Indian Navy will be sunk to the bottom of the sea around 7km from the shore. The ship is expected to attract a lot of marine life which will then be used as one of India's prominent scuba diving spots. Joining hands with the Pondicherry government, the Indian Navy has agreed to give away the ship to promote tourism. INS Cuddalore served the Indian Navy for 30 years before being revoked of the services earlier this year. The navy has taken the responsibility of sinking the ship at the decided place. The spot for the museum was decided by National Institute of Ocean Technology along with National Centre for Coastal Research after studying its underwater environment.

With time, the growth of aquatic ecosystem in the ship is expected. The authorities hope to see the breeding of various fishes and turtles around it. Few doors of the ship would be removed before sinking it in order to facilitate the divers to explore the ship from the inside. The project is expected to be a paradise for scuba divers and adventure seekers. It will encourage tourists and the locals alike to indulge in underwater activities.

Serving the country for 3 decades, the massive ship is a legend in itself. Divers, get ready with your gear for the legendary dive which is soon to come in Pondy.
