Amidst the rising coronavirus cases in the country, the Rajasthan government has mandated a COVID-negative report for people arriving from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat.

As per the new protocols, guests arriving in the desert state from any of the above four states will be required to present a negative RT-PCR test report. The test must be conducted 72 hours before arrival.

The move comes close on the heels of states like Sikkim and Odisha announcing their own COVID protocols for travellers.

While Sikkim has banned the entry of travellers from five states, Odisha has made a seven-day quarantine mandatory to contain the virus.

According to a news report, the Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government took the decision following a meeting between the chief minister and senior officials of the state.

One of the most popular tourist destinations of the country, Rajasthan, like other states, has also witnessed a sudden surge in the number of COVID cases. The decision has also been taken keeping in mind the rising cases in these neighbouring states.

The departments of local self-government, and information and public relations have been directed by the chief minister to launch campaigns to raise awareness about the virus and its outbreak.

In an interview with Outlook Traveller last year, Gehlot had said that the pandemic has created a huge loss for the travel and tourism sector in the state and that his government was taking necessary steps for its revival.

According to the latest figures released by Rajasthan&rsquos health department, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state so far stand at 3,21,123.
