This year marks the 75th year of India's independence. And to mark this anniversary, Delhi will get it's first museum dedicated to the Partition of 1947.
Work has been carrying on in the museum and it'll open its doors to the public on August 15.
As an extension of Amritsar&rsquos Partition Museum, the museum will be housed at the Dara Shikoh Library building at Mori Gate in Old Delhi. Built in 1643, the building currently stands in the Ambedkar University Delhi campus. It was named after Shah Jahan&rsquos eldest son, Dara Shikoh.
The museum will showcase artifacts like a refugee card, an Independence-era electricity meter from Lahore, handmade items given as gifts in 1942, a sewing machine, land deed for properties from Jhang, Punjab, dating back 1918.
Other museums are on the anvil. The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust (TAACHT) has joined hands with the Delhi government&rsquos Department of Archaeology for a museum dedicated to Dara Shikoh, which will display artifacts and antiquities such as his writings, his translation of the Upanishads and, since he was a Sufi believer, artifacts showcasing the Sufi heritage of Delhi.
Another museum will be dedicated to Delhi and will house the antiquities and sculptures gifted by Delhi&rsquos Department of Archaeology.
The project called &lsquoDaastaan-e-Dilli&rsquo aims at creating a cultural hub inside the Dara Shikoh Library. It'll be a unique space which will highlight the impact of the Partition of India, and the Sufism of Dara Shikoh.
The Partition Museum will be completed first, and will be ready by August 15, just in time for India&rsquos 75th year of independence. The other two museums, performance spaces, and gardens will be completed soon after.
