Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated a General Aviation Terminal at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on September 17. This is the first time in India that a terminal will exclusively handle the operation of private jets.
Up to 150 private aircrafts including Code C type jets can be handled each day by the new terminal which has as many as 57 parking bays. Singh reportedly informed the press that Indira Gandhi International Airport was handling 40 general aviation flights each day before the COVID-19 pandemic which has now reduced to 20 daily flights.
During the inauguration the minister told the press that the terminal is &ldquoa small but significant boost to general aviation which is a very critical component.&rdquo This development is a significant one in providing high-end infrastructure for travellers in Delhi. The processing and movement of chartered flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport is the main reason behind the creation of this terminal. It has been set up with all precautionary and safety measures in place for COVID-19.
Some of the features of the General Aviation Terminal include exclusive parking, commendable hospitality with 24x7 personal concierge services, elegant infrastructure, express check-in with a common processing area for inclusive customs and immigration and world class spacious lounge facilities. It also has a retail section along with food and beverage. The aim of this terminal is to provide a premium travel experience to all passengers.
