Delhi&rsquos Signature Bridge, connecting Wazirabad and East Delhi will shut down temporarily. Commuters taking the route everyday will have to look for an alternative route as the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Department Corporation (DTTDC) will be using this time to remove the machinery and crane, which are being used for the construction of observatory deck on top of the pylons.

In order to remove the equipment, the agency will require around 12 hours a day for at least 15 to 20 days. The heavy equipment that needs to be removed includes a tower crane, temporary ladder, and platforms from the construction site. Since the equipment is heavy and just above the road, any movement of traffic on the bridge cannot be permitted while the work in under process.

The bridge was opened in November last year, whereas the work on the four-storey observatory deck, which is to be built at the height of 154 m, started in June this year.

According to a Times of India report, A DTTDC official said the nature of work is such that it can only be done in the day light. &ldquoIf we get the closure scheduled as asked for, we will be able to complete the work in 15-20 days. If we get lesser number of hours a day, the the number of days required to remove the machinery will get will get extended,&rdquo said the official.

A source said that DTTDC had tried to remove some equipment during daytime in June when traffic was moving. However, it was found to be unsafe and was immediately abandoned, added the report.
Delhi traffic police confirmed that a request had been received from the government agency for the closure of the bridge. &ldquoWe have suggested that some days can be given after the festival period when the volume of traffic also thins out,&rdquo said a traffic police officer.
