Many people find the paranormal, mysterious and eerie things to be quite interesting. It seems that there was a bit of a vampire fever early in the new millennium. At the time, The Vampire Diaries was a weekly television series, and the Twilight books were starting to gain greater popularity. Everyone seems to have had a vampire phase at some point or another. But how often did you want to visit the iconic Mystic Grill or the Forks High School Here is a round-up of five places in the US where your favourite vampire fiction has been filmed or mentioned in a book.
Forks, Washington
Talking of vampire fiction and not mentioning Forks would be a grave sin indeed. When Stephenie Meyer, the author of The Twilight Saga series, wrote the book, she must have had in mind to keep it real as much as possible. The unique love story of a vampire named Edward Cullen, later played by Robert Pattinson and Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, had all of us fantasising about having a similar love story. The author sets the story in a town named Forks, which is a real place and mentions several spots like the Forks High School, Forks Community Hospital, and the Cullen House, Quillayute area, including La Push which added to the realism. Every year, hundreds of fans flock to Forks to live their vampire-fiction dream, some even hoping to find a vampire-lover.
How to reach One can take a flight to Seattle Airport and then later take a bus or ferry to reach Forks. One can also take a train from Portland by reaching there by flight.
New Orleans, Louisiana
From voodoo to witchcraft, New Orleans has always been a place of mystical and paranormal activities. It is also known for its culture and art that has a lot of attractions from across the world. The place stood out when Klaus Mikaelson, the famous original hybrid (a vampire and a werewolf), called this town his home in the fiction drama The Vampire Diaries and later in The Originals. Played by Joseph Morgan, Klaus&rsquo emotional connection and his desire to show the place to his love Caroline Forbes had fans yearning to visit the place. The French Quarter and bars in New Orleans are a must-visit for fans. And do enjoy the New Orleans nightlife, which is full of drama and fun and live your Mikaelsons life.
How to reach The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is the city's main airport which is well-linked to many places in the United States and abroad as well.
Salem, Massachusetts
Known for the Salem Witch Trials, the town has an infamous history of persecuting women of witchcraft in the 1600s. This resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, and hence, this town is associated with witchcraft, grimoires, and also vampires. Salem was mentioned multiple times in the show The Vampire Diaries as Bonnie Bennet, played by Kat Graham, belonged to the Salem Witches Coven. The Old Burying Point is where the trials took place. The Salem Witch Museum, founded in 1972, offers historical presentations of the incident.
How to reach The closest airport is Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. Depending on traffic, it takes 30 to 45 minutes to drive from Logan to downtown Salem.
Georgia, Covington
Another iconic vampire-fiction destination is Mystic Falls from the show The Vampire Diaries. You will find it in Georgia. From Mystic Grill to Lockwood Mansion, Salvatore House, Gilbert House, and the Mystic Falls High School, you can visit all these attractions. The town also hosts screenings of the show occasionally along with the stars, at the Town Square, and drinks are served in blood bags.
How to reach The nearest airport in Atlanta from where you can reach the town in an hour if you take a bus or car.
Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles might not be one of the most popular destinations for vampire enthusiasts, but you can still stop by the Vampire Bar and Tasting Room. According to several rumours, a real vampire coven owns the lounge. Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer should visit the Ennis House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, which served as Angel's home in the television series. Take a trip to Long Beach's Alex's Bar, which functioned as Fangtasia, if you enjoyed True Blood.
