Days after social media was flooded with complaints about steep ticket price hikes from Mumbai to Patna and the dynamic pricing system for Suvidha Express, the Ministry of Railways is reportedly considering discontinuing dynamic pricing for premium Suvidha trains.

There are plans to stop the flexible fare structure for these premium trains, especially as air travel from Mumbai to Patna is now more affordable than the Suvidha train.

As per reports, dynamic fares will continue for Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duranto trains, with Suvidha trains also adopting their pricing structure. For a Mumbai-Patna Suvidha 2AC ticket, the base fare is INR 2,950, and the dynamic charges amount to INR 5,900. Including taxes and additional charges, the total cost for a ride on November 24 reaches INR 9,395. However, booking in advance for November 24 would cost approximately INR 7,000.

The recent focus on surge pricing for Suvidha tickets arose due to the rush of passengers travelling home for Chhath Puja.

In a similar hike during the festive season, AC-2 berths on the Jaipur-Yeshwanthpur route reached INR 11,230 on Suvidha Express trains, while on the Mumbai-Patna route, they cost INR 9,395.

About Fare of Suvidha Trains

Suvidha’s fare system operates dynamically, adjusting ticket prices based on booking rates and seat availability. It comprises five slabs, each representing 20 per cent of the total seats.

The initial slab mirrors the Rajdhani base fare plus a Tatkal charge. Subsequent slabs see an incremental increase, starting at 1.5 times the base fare and gradually rising—the final slab caps at three times the initial slab fare.

A high-speed train service, Suvidha, runs on the most crowded routes, guaranteeing confirmed tickets and holding precedence over Superfast, Mail, and Express trains.
