OLT Tell us your whisky story.
Donald Colville For me, whisky is more than just a job its a way of life. My great-grandfather used to own and operate distilleries in my hometown, Campbeltown, in Scotland. While I never got to meet him or see the distilleries because they were long closed by the time I was born, I grew up hearing stories. I always knew I wanted to work in the same industry. Once I finished studying, I went back to my hometown and within two days, I was working at the local distillery of Springbank. Fast forward a few years, I moved to a medium-sized company which owned some wonderful brands, but then the opportunity to join Diageo came. It gave me the chance to work with some very iconic brands and travel all over the world. I asked the manager of the team then, What does global mean to you Because global in my previous roles had meant Europe and America. He looked at me thoughtfully and said, Well, if they have a runway, chances are that you will visit them. Im now in my 77th country, i.e., India.
