Hotel Review: The Grand Dragon, Ladakh

Elevate your Ladakh experience at The Grand Dragon, where luxury and tradition come together in breathtaking harmony

Author : Satarupa Paul

Perched at 11,562 ft in the heart of Leh, The Grand Dragon Ladakh is not just a hotel—it’s a legacy. Ladakh’s first and only government-certified 5-star property has set a new standard for luxury in the Himalayas since its inception in 2007.

Inspired by the Rabsal tradition of Ladakh, the hotel’s architecture is a tribute to local heritage, from intricately carved wooden entrances to the delicate details of Shing Tsak ceilings. The 76 rooms and suites blend traditional Ladakhi design with modern luxury, featuring teak wood floors, handcrafted furniture, and stunning views of the majestic Himalayan landscape. Each room offers top-tier amenities, including heated floors and a fresh air system to combat high-altitude conditions.

Dining At The Grand Dragon

Dining at The Grand Dragon is an experience in itself. Whether savouring local delicacies like thukpa and momos at Zasgyath, enjoying an intimate meal in a traditional Ladakhi setting at Tusrabs, or relaxing with fine teas, coffees, and freshly baked goodies at Solja, every meal is a celebration of the region’s rich culinary traditions. The hotel also offers 24-hour in-room dining, BBQ and bonfire evenings on the lawns, and curated picnic services in scenic locales.

We are proud of our legacy and Ladakhi heritage. Today, The Grand Dragon Ladakh is an easily recognisable landmark in Leh. It boasts artistically designed architecture infused with indigenous elements, complemented by paintings by Gulam Mustafa, Ladakh’s first modern artist. Our recently launched Hammam Wellness Spa by L’OCCITANE is the first to offer guests an international experience of luxurious well-being. The Grand Dragon Ladakh is also the perfect hub for exploring Ladakh’s cultural and natural treasures. Day trips to ancient monasteries like Hemis, Thiksey, and Alchi, or overnight excursions to Pangong Tso, Nubra Valley, and Lamayuru, including sightings of the elusive snow leopard, offer guests memorable and unforgettable experiences.
